- 0-50% : flat
- 50-80%: quite flat
- 80-120%: average
- 120-180%: hilly
- 180-220%: very hilly
- 220-280%: extremely hilly
- 280%+ : ridiculous
The hilliness factor is calculated as ascent in metres / distance in miles x 10, giving a percentage. Or it can be calculated as ascent in feet / distance in miles x 3, again giving a percentage.
